Carol Smith of Surprising Lines runs first Art in the Barn workshop

DSC04706 mervAlthough the weather wasn’t looking very promising for the start of a series of one day Art in the Barn workshops at Birtley Estate, two ladies, Suzy and Brenda, braved the wet weather last week to join Carol Smith for a very enjoyable day.

Carol Smith, of Surprising Lines, who is running the workshops, had originally planned for those on the workshop to sit out in the grounds to do some drawing, but instead this activity was moved to the Barn and gazebo.  Participants also completed some printing in the afternoon. Merv, a resident woodsman on the estate, who was taking part in the workshop, then gave the group a guided tour through the beautiful woodland.

Carol said: “It was interesting to see how each person grabbed the idea and made it their own.  Suzy’s prints were all about colour, Merv’s were intricate and delicate and Brenda enjoyed using pastels and other elements to add to her prints. I think they all went home with something they were pleased with.”

There are three more workshops taking place on Tuesday 7th June, Tuesday 1th July and Tuesday 16th August.
If you would like to come contact Carol at surprisinglines@gmail.com for more details.
